Dr. John Galasso, DACHM, MSOM, BA, Dipl.Ac., LAc, has been working in the healthcare field since 2002. After graduating Boston University pre-med with a bachelor's degree in Biology, Dr. Galasso chose to travel the world and deepen his spiritual path. He lived in Hawaii, Stockholm, London, and Berkeley among many. He was a resident at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, where he lived karma yoga and learned the Hindu religion through renunciate yogis and a swami. Shortly thereafter, he profoundly deepened his path by learning Vipassana, the
meditation the Buddha rediscovered and used to attain enlightenment. He was a resident at the Vipassana Meditation Center Dhamma Dhara, where he worked and meditated. Between Kripalu and Dhamma Dhara, Dr. Galasso managed three General Nutrition Center stores.
With a wider view on life, he revisited becoming a doctor. The country needed general practitioners, and naturopathic medicine seemed like a solution. Sonoran University of Health Sciences was an eye-opening experience and a great wealth of education. But, what became quickly obvious was that naturopathic medicine was being engulfed by conventional medicine, had become a medicine for the well-to-do, and its philosophy of treating the cause of disease was uncertain. Pills and surgery were prescribed too often, and the roots of the medicine to heal were being replaced. The decision to switch from Western medicine to Oriental medicine took time, but was simple in principle. Use what works to treat the origin of the ailment, train your patients how to maintain their health, and do it all with no pills or surgery. The naturopathic medical schools taught him advanced knowledge in Western pharmaceuticals, anatomy, and treatments that he used to excel in his first two years at Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture. After finishing his internships, Dr. Galasso did an externship at Natural Medicine and Detox, a private practice in downtown Phoenix.
Dr. Galasso balances his medical passion for learning with traveling the less traveled ways, cooking new dishes, meditating, yoga, and half marathoning. Occasionally, he flies somewhere tropical to surf some waves or climb a pyramid, but it is the people that he meets that makes travel precious. He feels very lucky to be working with the ever-smiling Dr. Larson and his wonderful staff.
He graduated with a Doctor of Acupuncture with Specialization in Herbal Medicine (DACHM), one of Arizona's first acupuncture doctors.
